Henry Schmidt is a German artist. No more is known about him. He painted a dreamlike panorama in the East Side Gallery titled “Vergesst mir die Liebe nicht” (“Don’t go and forget love”). It depicts a naked couple walking away from a mysterious group of young and old people.

Schmidt’s Wall painting “Vergesst mir die Liebe nicht” (“Don’t go and forget love”) shows a dreamlike panorama of naked children with strangely adult faces playing on sandy ground. An old couple on the left of the picture are watching the children. A naked couple on the right, reminiscent of Adam and Eve, are leaving the group for the dark forest that frames the scene and perhaps stands for the Berlin Wall. The couple’s departure, accentuated by the red morning sky in the background, perhaps portrays the sense of new beginnings after the fall of the Wall.
